I started ESAS because I felt the absence of absolute representation. East and Southeast Asians (ESA) in Scotland are excellent integrators but with that also comes invisibility and the erasure of our culture and ethnic identity. ESA people contribute so much to Scottish society and we deserve to take up space and express our ‘Asian Joy’ freely and unapologetically.

Kimi là người mang hai dòng máu: người Kelabit thuộc đảo Borneo và người Hakka (Khách Gia) – Trung Quốc, cô sinh ra ở Sarawak và lớn lên giữa hai thành phố: Kuala Lumpur và Edinburgh. Cô ủng hộ Quyền con người và Bình đẳng cho tất cả những người di cư ở Scotland, nâng cao nhận thức về sức khỏe tinh thần và thúc đẩy sự tham gia và tính toàn diện của BIPOC trong lĩnh vực sức khỏe tinh thần.

Sarah là một Nghệ sĩ, Họa sĩ vẽ tranh minh họa và Ký giả tự do, sinh ra và lớn lên ở Edinburgh. Loạt tranh nghệ thuật 'Đông gặp Tây' gần đây nhất của cô đưa ra những mối liên hệ tích cực giữa văn hóa Anh và Trung Quốc - với màu sắc và sự hài hước nhẹ nhàng. Jacqueline là trợ lý pháp lý tại một công ty phân phối TV. Cô cũng là nhà tổ chức cốt lõi của tổ chức “Chấm dứt Virus Phân biệt chủng tộc” có trụ sở tại London, vận động nâng cao nhận thức về sự gia tăng của tội ác do thù ghét với những người thuộc cộng đồng Đông và Đông Nam Á ở Vương quốc Anh. Jacqueline sinh ra ở Philippines và lớn lên ở bờ biển phía tây Scotland.

'I came to know about ESAS through Kimi. Through Black Lives Matter and listening to the stories of those in the East and Southeast Asian community in Scotland, I saw the importance of taking an anti-racist stance and to resist the white bourgeois establishment. Being part of ESAS has provided me with the emotional stronghold that stops me from being paralysed by fear from racial discrimination.

Aerin là nghiên cứu sinh về Xã hội học tại Đại học Edinburgh. Cô mong muốn trở thành một nhà hoạt động chống phân biệt chủng tộc trong cuộc sống hàng ngày của mình, vận động cho sự hiểu biết toàn diện hơn và nhiều sắc thái hơn về lịch sử toàn cầu từ lăng kính của chủ nghĩa thực dân.
